DATES TO REMEMBER
  • Saturday, February 14th -
    Valentine's Day!
  • Tuesday, March 9th - Board Meeting at the Clubhouse 7:00pm.

ANNUAL MEETING

The Annual Meeting of Second Victorian Village was held on Monday January 26th in our Clubhouse.

Board President Cliff Dye called the meeting to order and briefly shared information with the homeowners present regarding our homeowner's insurance policy. A comparison of coverage between VVII and First Victorian Village was explained. President Dye stated that our coverage is almost two times the coverage that is held by VVI, and the per occurrence deductibles are much higher than ours; and thus the difference in our premiums.

Treasurer Dee Ellison gave a brief report and stated that the annual budget would be sent to all of the homeowners very shortly.

Nominations from the floor for the open Board positions were requested, and Board member Delores Wheeler nominated Peter Revere to be considered for one of the three vacancies.

The Nominating Committee then counted the votes for the election of three new Board members. Acting Secretary David Schnefke announced that the three new Board members elected were Murray Scott, Jo Anne Hanzelka and Tom Walzer. The meeting was then adjourned.

COVENANTS GOVERN USE OF TOWNHOUSES

All homeowners and tenants should be familiar with the governing documents of our Village.

Neighbors have recently complained about the apparent operation of businesses within our Village.
Please read Article X, all Sections to see if you are in violation, and if so, please take the necessary steps to correct the violation(s). The Board will be addressing these issues in the near future. Article X covers the use of our property for residential use only.

Reports to the office have indicated that we have day care operations and commercial business being conducted within our Village - these are a direct violation of the Covenants. If you are a homeowner who feels that a neighbor is in violation, please make your complaint to the Board in writing stating the nature of the alleged violation and the homeowner's address and name. You need not identify yourself unless you want a response directly from the Board.

HOLIDAY DECORATIONS

All our neighbors enjoyed our holiday decorations, but now they must be put away until next season. Please see that your lights are removed from carports and bushes as soon as possible. Lighting left in the shrubs prevents trimming. Your help in accomplishing this removal is appreciated by the lawn crew and your neighbors.

LEASHES, LEAVINGS AND STRAYS

A friendly reminder that all dogs must be walked on a leash; the puppy and big doggy "leavings" must be scooped; and that stray cats have been roaming our Village randomly. Please be a responsible pet owner and take the proper actions to see that you follow the rules. The Board enacted fines in 2002 that have not been imposed, but will be revisited if violations continue.

Several stray cats have been removed from the property recently. Our neighborhood is too compact to allow our pets to roam freely, 24 hours a day. Please contain your pets, respect your neighbors.

BASKETBALL COURT

Once again the basketball court is the subject of discussion within our Village. The frequent use by non-residents and the foul language is not pleasant for anyone to hear. The Board is asking all homeowners who are offended by ill-mannered users to call Security each and every time an incident takes place. Let Security handle these issues and determine if the players are residents. The Board will be discussing this issue in the next few weeks to determine a plan that allows the continued use of the court in a neighborhood friendly manner.

THE BOARD NEEDS YOU

This week the Board will be looking for a few good men and women who are willing to be an integral part of our Village and its day-to-day operations. If you are retired or working, a homeowner or a tenant, have two to five hours each month to volunteer to serve on a Village committee - step up and be counted!

The Village has several committees covering maintenance to by-laws, socials to audits - each of which is chaired by a Board member with four residents completing the committee.

For those who do not know the committee members role - it is to contribute to the best of his or her ability, to be co-operative and focused, to be impartial, to maintain confidentiality and to be able to communicate or consult as required.

Serving on a committee(s) allows you to share your expertise with others in helping improve life in the Village and allows you to meet other neighbors with similar interests.

The Board relies on the input of the work of each committee and it is crucial to our operations - both financial and physical.

The attached page has a brief description of each committee and purpose. Please read this list carefully and submit your interests in writing to the office or by e-mail to the Village Voice editor at the e-mail addresses in this newsletter. The Board will

be selecting Committee Chairs this week, and those interested will be contacted within the next ten days so committees can be completed. If you have several interests, please indicate first, second, third, etc. And, if you are willing to serve on more than one committee, please also let us know that information.

The Board and your neighbors thank you!

SPECIAL THANKS

Finally, the Board and the Village wish to extend a big THANKS to the three Board members who are leaving the Board. Linda Neils, Judy Monday and Marina Shell have completed their fulfillment and are moving on to new events. Marina and Judy are both new grandmothers and Linda is concentrating on recovering from a lingering illness. We extend our many thanks for your hard work and hours of assistance.
